  • Face Value

Integral parts of the human body (the organic) coupled with a set of emotional states (the holograms). This is not only a fusion of the organic and the digital (as most things are), but also a fusion of something physical / graspable and something vague / abstract.

The exception being Organic Hologram 00: Vomit; as it is neither a part of the body, nor integral. But you get why I chose it.

The actual content of this website are short literary pieces that center around any of the Organic Holograms, although I am very open to giving contributors creative freedom in how they wish to interpret the themes.

  • Why?

As someone who has trouble expressing or even recognizing feelings, I often find it easier to view them in combination with more graspable and familiar “concepts.” Emotion is as much a part of human biology as any organ; thus, coupling the two is not only logical, but also highlights the dynamic between psychological and physical wellbeing. As a tangent, technology has become a part of our lives in a similarly vague fashion as feelings; hence the comparison of the latter to “holograms.”

  • Why the Website?

I am interested in people as much as I am interested in art. I want to give you the opportunity to use writing as a form of therapy; as well as a tool to process emotions and to better understand them / yourself.

Furthermore, I have an arts university background (as you might have guessed), which is how I noticed the neglect of writing in the creative sphere. This is, I believe, mainly due to how difficult it is to showcase in a gallery - you can’t just take a quick look and move on. With this project, I want to shine a spotlight on writing and its unique properties. Don’t get me wrong, I love the audiovisual arts; but there are things that only writing can do. That’s what this website is for.

Feel free to submit something.

  • Why Are You so Cryptic and Pretentious?

That’s just how I am.

  • Who Are You?

On this website, I go by Poodle. I don’t like being very “out there,” which is why I don’t use my actual name here. You don’t have to, either, by the way (more information on privacy / copyright here).

I am a third year BA (Hons) Creative Writing student at the Arts University Bournemouth. This project is for an assessment, yes; but that does not mean that I am any less passionate about it. Your writing is in safe hands. I know my stuff and I care about you and your work.

  • I Want to Submit, but…

… I am shy. That’s alright. I swear, I’m harmless. I’m soft. I’m just a guy, really, so please don’t feel like I’m unapproachable. The worst thing that can happen is getting a bunch of these emoticons: “:-)”. If you’re still too shy, that’s alright. We all go at our own pace.

… I’m bad at writing. This website welcomes any level of writing. Furthermore, this is not about semantic excellence, this is about genuine emotion and the existential dread of being human. If you still feel like you could do better, I will gladly help you draft and edit your piece(s).

… English is not my first language. That’s alright! It isn’t mine, either. I can help you correct spelling or grammatical mistakes (unless you want them to stay in the piece), or you can write in a language you feel more comfortable with. In that case, I will include both the original and a translation. If it is in German or Italian, I’ll translate it myself; if not, I will find someone. Either way, I personally guarantee top quality.
